We are coming up on the 2020-2021 Hoops Season in the state of Texas and with all of the talented high school teams around the Lonestar state, I’ve decided to do a Texas Team Hs Preview which will feature some of the top teams in UIL, TAPPS, SPC and independent teams.
The first team that I will be previewing is one of the top 6A teams in the state of Texas, The Mckinney Lions.
The Lions are very young, talented and deep group that feature some of the top prospects in the state.
Here are some of the Prospects to watch on this year’s squad:
Prospects To Watch
Devin Vincent • PG • 2022
Vincent is a smooth combination guard who can make plays for others or score it himself from the lead guard spot and off the ball.
Jacovey Campbell • PG • 2023
A tough fearless guard who is a blur with the basketball and loves to make plays off the bounce. Defensively he is a pit bull that uses his quickness and active hands to aggravate opposing guards.
Jakobe Walter • SG • 2023
Walter is one of the top SG prospects In the country for his class. The lanky guard has good feel for his position and is able to get to his spots where he can elevate and connect from multiple areas on the court. He is still improving on his athleticism but his size scoring tools and feel is what makes him such a productive scorer.
Alex Anamekwe • PF • 2022
Anamekwe is a physical specimen who is athletic and possesses the ability to score on the wing or do damage around or above the rim. He exudes toughness and plays with a high motor on both ends of the floor and a monster on the inside especially in the rebounding department.
Thatcher Mcclure • PF • 2022
Mcclure may not have as much recognition as Walters, Anamekwe or some of the other prospects on his team but the versatile four-man had a very productive summer and caught the attention of multiple state evaluators because of his ability to score inside/out. I expect Mcclure to have a big season for the Lions this season.
Jackson Steele • SG • 2022
Steele is a long range sniper that you must account for because if you let him catch it in rhythm you're in trouble!
Conclusion
The 6A Mckinney Lions are in a very loaded and competitive district but, as I stated earlier they have more than enough talent and the experience to make a deep run like they did last season.
