A lot of prospects in Texas in the 2021 class recruitment has been doing well despite not being able to have any live period opportunities to play in front of college coaches due to the pandemic. However there is still a lot of prospects who Coaches should get more familiar with. Today I will be talking about 2 of those Texas native prospects from that class who I feel are currently overlooked. Those 2 are point guards and their names are 2021 6’4 PG Jimel Cofer of Schoolhouse Prep/Drive Nation 17U & 2021 5’9 PG Jacobi Lewis of OD. Wyatt/Crab 5 Elite.
Here are player breakdowns of both prospects below:
21 PG Jacobi Lewis OD Wyatt/Crab5 Elite
Lewis is a slick tight ball handler who can really create plays off the dribble from the lead guard spot. He has great vision and knows how to deliver the rock to cutters and open players for scoring chances. Lewis shoots it well from distance and he has a nice floater which he can get off over post players when he attacks the paint. Whoever gets this kid will be getting a calm and collected game manager and leader who will help a program win a lot of games.
21’ PG Jimel Cofer 6’4 PG Schoolhouse Prep/Drive Nation
Cofer was not been talked about that much by Texas media and that’s because he played his past high school season in Florida. However Cofer is back playing AAU in Texas with Nike EYBL Squad Drive Nation 17U. The big athletic lead guard has ideal size for his position and he showed me at the Circuit League Session 1 the ability to make good decisions passing the ball and get in the lane off the bounce with ease. He is also a strong defender who uses his strong frame, speed and quickness to keep opposing guards in front of him. His recruitment hasn’t taken off yet but I wouldn’t be surprised if that changes soon.
