The Inside The Rim Texas Grassroots Awards

Texas Spring/Summer Grassroots Basketball has officially ended for the 2020 season. I have decided to hand out some awards to the Texas prospects in the 2021 and 2022 class for the 16U & 17U division.

Here are the recipients of the Inside The Rim Texas Grassroots Awards Below:

Grassroots Coach Of The Year

Zack Rodriguez of Texas Dynasty

Having a good Coach is a blessing to have in any level of basketball and especially in the grassroots industry where Coaches usually volunteer their services for free. Coach Zack Rodriguez of Texas Dynasty 16U earned my respect and the respect from a lot of his peers with how well and hard he coached his group this summer. His team only lost two games all season long and beat some of the top teams in the state of Texas.

Breakout Player of The Summer

2022 Zuby Ejiofor of Beast Up Elite & Anthony Black of 3D Empire

Before the grassroots season began these two 2022 Texas prospects PF Zuby Ejiofor and G Anthony Black were a bit under the radar, but once they took the court and showcased their abilities they became two of the hottest Juniors not only in the state but also the country.

Best Scorer

2022 SG Keyonte George Drive Nation

2022 Keyonte George is an elite shotmaker that can score in a multitude of ways and his size, feel and athleticism makes him very hard for defenders to stop this summer. His ability to get buckets at will all summer long was the reason why he was my choice for the best scorer.

Best Team

Southern Assault 17U

The debate for the best team was a difficult choice to make but I had to give the nod to Southern Assault 17U. The Texas 3SSB Adidas Sponsored had a terrific summer this season and defeated some of the top opposing teams in the state and only lost one game all summer.

Best Defender

2021 PF Daimion Collins & 2021 PF Javier Francis

Having a player who is an Elite Shot Blocker and an Elite Rebounder is a beautiful thing. 2021 Prospects, PF Damion Collins and PF Javier Francis are both good shot blockers and rebounders who are game changers on the defensive end.

Most Outstanding Player

2022 PG Cason Wallace of Taz Elite

This selection was not an easy one to make but there was no player more dominant offensively and defensively than 2022 PG Cason Wallace of Taz Elite. The lean athletic playmaker was hard to stay in front of and scored on all levels on offense and on defense guarding the opposing teams best player and making difficult for them to produce.

Most Improved Player

21’ PF Ashton Smith DOYA

Smith passes the eye test at first glance and when I saw him for the first time last year, I knew that this kid had all of the physical tools but had to put it together. This summer Smith has shown that he is starting to turn the corner in terms of skill and production on both ends of the floor. His improvement has helped him pick up offers from multiple High Major D1 Programs.
